Programs used during our production

Final cut pro is a licensed product allocated to us to contruct and eventually edit our adopted video. This specific software is used by professional artists and their large teams of cinematographers and certified editors but we retracted our experiences from AS media to conjuctionally edit our film and deliver a realistic hip hop music video.
The prgramme which we used during the design aspect of our album cover would be the much acclaimed Photoshop CS5. This programme allows the group to beneifit from its professional look and the enhancement of the individual tools which consistute on this specific software. It also allows us to add authenticity to our print based work therefore enhancing the realism of our work.
Blogger is an internet based software used to inform followers about the on goings of certain things for example a particular sport of even a celebrity. Blogger was a crucial tool which we used to inform our audiences on the progress we were making in our project. "Keep blogging guys". Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries on commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. However as a group, we wanted to each share our opinions and reveal to our audience any important occurrences, followed by detailed analysis into important aspects in our project. Blog can also be used a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Final Album Poster / Magazine Advert

Our final album poster/magazine advert exhibits the protagonist based at the bottom of some stairs which proceed onto a narrow bridge. We chose this particular image because the bridge represents the connection between Jacob's old life and his perpetual new lifestyle. Which conveys him being 'ON TO THE NEXT ONE'.

The poster also exhibits the many different ways our album can be purchased, for example via Apples Itunes, which is an established online music store set up to give music listeners the visual benefits of the beautiful art. This much acclaimed site will give our album worldwide recognition because we 'Cant be scared to fail, when i search of perfection'. Furthermore, we have allowed HMV to distribute our album because their much applauded niche style of marketing will allow our product to gross in the different sectors of that particular business.

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

Being specific about the technology used whilst filming our video we used many pieces of equipment. Similary to last year we used the exact digital camera, Canon legria fs306 and a tripod. The use of a tripod helped us hugely in the making due to the fact many angles we produced as the tripod allowed us to explore these with various heights as well. The advantages of using a digital camera consisted of it being easier to handle as they are very light weight and easy to use once shown in AS. This meant we could film steadily in any direction/angle we wanted with use of the tripod. We imported our footage from the camera onto the Apple Mac computers using a card reader, it took seconds to import. There were hardly any disadvantages to using the tripod and camera combination, as we had previous knowledge from AS. The only disadvantage that could be said is the tripod only goes to a certain height and so it was difficult to obtain footage from a high place.

Another aspect of technology we used was the studio which has a different range of expert cameras, JVC 3CC0. These cameras are extremely technical and so we had the help of a teacher as we began to use to them. We grew accustomed to the use of them and eventually learnt how to use them. They were extremely beneficial as they exerted an soft and thourough image and they were moveable, so we could put them in any position we desired to gain the shots we neeed. Jacob performed in the studio which reflects most modern day hip hop videos, as they all contain a performance which looks extremely professional. In the studio we had the choice of using green screen or a simple coloured background. We took advantage of both these offers and filmed using both the blank coloured and green screen so we had a lot of footage, and the choice of two. Green screening was a great facility as it allowed use to insert any image we wanted onto the screen with Jacob performing infront. We used images that were greatly associated with the lyrics, for example "bottles" we used a picture of a bottle and with "money" we used a selection of different notes. We also opted to use some of the footage filmed with a white blank screen. This contrasted with the black costume Jacob was wearing and this was indeed our idea. By using simple colours we are presenting the contrasts of life.

'CHOOSE ONE'

A green screening used was a Money background. This is used when the lyric "Make it stack" is being said. The money in the background is shows the money piling ontop of each other acsocaiting to the lyric. Money is however very sterotypical in this genre of hip hop music due to the fact it justifactes power and status. We tried to replicate this aspect in our video as it conveys jacob, the protagonists, moving 'On to the next one'.

'MAKE IT STACK'

'SO I SWITCHED GOLD BOTTLES ONTO THAT SPADE SH*T'

Our adaptability allowed us to experiment with different video footage in search of attaining the best outcome for our video. For example we would compare footage of Jacob's performance gathered on the Arndale rooftops to a whole performance shot against the green screen. This process revealed to us the benefits of using the green screen through its interchangeable background and adaptability to fit specific scenes.

We used the vision mixing desk which allowed us to cut and produce different angles between cameras. We

were at first unaware of how to use it because was of course new to us being the first time we used it. These features allowed us to explore and use a wide range of shots making our video imaginative and intriguing for others to watch. Once all the footage for our video had been obtained we had to go about editing it, using "Final Cut Pro" editing program. This was easy to use as we had used it in AS and so we had particular knowledge. However, we did in fact have to re-cap as we had forgotten some aspects such as changing the size of the shot or applying a specific effect. When our sharpness was attained, we began to experiment with the various amounts footage we had collected in search of something unique and original. For example the climax of our production consisted of various scenes which were specifically edited to every 2 beats to create an essence of montage editing.

3. What have you learnt from audience feedback?

The audience have been extremely
helpful in giving us positive feedback yet also criticizing our video. We would always take negative opinions into account and improve them because due to the fact we produce our work for the audience and it is down to them on what they liked and disliked about the video. However, our editing was said to be precise and unique
as it specifically relates to the beat of the music which allows the lip syncing to be as accurate as possible. In addition, the precise editing enhances the authenticity of the video and realism throughout. This enables people to be able to relate and understand clearly the context of the video.

We created feedback devices such as the survey produced to attain the public's views on the images they thought our album cover should exhibit and also another crucial feedback device we used was to construct an actual feedback video of our audience, in aim of obtaining first hand insight into what they thought about our video and how it could be improved.

"Its relevant to the narrative.."

This quote, as quoted by Kwame is specific to our production. It is beneficial that he picked up on the images and techniques used being relevant to the narrative as this was our made aim. This shows that the intentions we had for our audience has worked intentionally well and additionally in our favour due to the fact Jacob performed throughout the video conveying aspects of other Rap videos. What also helped this was the images associating with the lyrics themselves. This gives our production an illustrative narrative in that, the images complement the lyrics.

"I would use less green screen"

This was quoted by Kwame, being a media student himself picks an improvement to be made. If we were to remake the video we would take this advice into account due to the fact when using the white background as Jacob is performing this didn't work exceptionally well as we had to edit parts on photo shop. However We disagree slightly as using green screen did benefit our video in many ways such as using visuals in conjuction with the lyrics and also adds to the realism and authenticity of a hip hop video

The audience have proved to be a vital beneficiary to us during this project because they helped us delegate certain aspects of the production. For example the constructions of our album covers would not have been applicable were it not fort the audiences feedback on which images we should specifically combine in hope of obtaining the ideal combination which would appeal most to them.

The feedback we retracted out of our fellow media studies students proved to be vital because they highlighted they areas they would improve in our video and in or for our to "MOVE ONWARDS", we must use embrace the criticism and use it to further our productions qualities.

2. How effective is the combination of the main product ancillary texts?

During this project, our group deliberated on making all the elements of the assignment complimentary towards one another, which will enable the audience to make a clear judgments on the work we produced. Another reason as to why we wanted our work to be complimentary, was that from research into related posters and album covers, they always complimented one another and/or was related in some way. The relation between the two sometimes differed yet then again remained the same. For example, the poster for Jay Z's album complimented his poster in that both included the same picture of the three red strokes and white background. In my opinion this would be so the aduience can associate this image with Jay Z and will automatically consider and refer to Jay Z when they see it.

With all our panels, we tried to exhibit aspects of the Protagonist how ever little that would have been. Example the medium shot of Jacob, the main performer, on the album cover instantly reveals to the audience who the main star/performer is and also in a way entices them. In addition the back cover of our album reveals the protagonists turning his back on his old and blemished life style and is now 'Moving onward's, the only direction' , which is reinforced by panel exhibiting the trainers bearing the inscription of ' I move onwards' on them. That specific panel would also hold the disc. Furthermore the panel bearing the electronic device was intentionally deployed to support our intertextual approach. this approach entailed us to Incorporate aspects of modern day hip-hop/rap videos into our production with an aim of securing an essence of realism and authenticity for our video.

Additionally, in our poster and album cover, we used a constant same text style, for specific dialogue such as our adopted video "On To the Next One" this was specifically deployed to reinforce our video to our target audience. We interlinked all these elements and features in hope of delivering the overall theme of the Jacob's deprived life and lack of luxuries. This proved to be beneficial due to the feedback we obtained from a sample of our audience. Our main product consistently unveils the protagonist and enhances his status as the main performer. In addition this is replicated on our constructed album cover and magazine poster to once again reinforce the appeal the main performer has to our target audience. Furthermore the colouring schemes deployed in all three elements of our production were used to specifically convey the performers rich aspects, which was represented by a gold tint in the video. In contrast to the golden tint, we used a desaturated fade in specific scenes to exhibit the poor aspects of Jacob's life.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

As a group we didn't want to limit our knowledge nor research and only look at rap genre, so we looked at a broad range of music videos to gain a wider insight to the industry. By doing this we gained a certain inspiration from quite a few different videos. We looked at Ace Hood's "Hustle Hard" video and took inspiration from it, in that we wanted to create two contrasting ideas: poor and rich as he does in his.

We also looked at "The A Team" by Ed Sheeran and did actually compare it to "Telephone" by Lady Gaga. The comparisons shown how they were both opposing in that "Telephone" is brightly couloured connoting happiness and excitement yet "The A Team" present something totally different. It delivers a depressing performance which reflects negative aspects of life.

All three videos helped in the planning towards our production. It inspired us to actually combine all three of the themes, techniques and colours of all three. We based it upon the narrative of "Hustle Hard", used the dark colours to represent the negative (as seen in "The A Team") and then added colour to show the positive.

Our video did in fact break away from the conventions of everyday rap videos yet some aspects remained alike. The reason for us slightly breaking away is that most rap videos nowadays have no story they are just simply about money or girls and have no deeper meaning. And thus, we wanted to move away from this and give it much more person meaning to the individual and others. We did this by showing a person going from humble beginnings to better things through progression and determination, enduring a struggle to get where they are now. The way in which our video was similar regarding the conventions is many rap videos consist of a performance, Jay Z performs his song in his videos which is what we gave and presented.

Blue Print 3 - Jay Z. Poster Analysis

The left image shows a magazine cover which Jay Z used to further promote his album. The image on the right is the actual poster. It consists of simple colours, grey/white/red and prominant big, bold and black writing. Jay Z's name is clear to see, along with the date of issue. He uses the same image as the actual album, by doing this it will make the audience more and more familiar.

Furthermore this the poster/magazine advert clearly advertises the protagonists, JAY Z, because he is the USP (unique selling point) of the actual album due to his broad appeal worldwide and his influence on rap/hip-hop music. This marketing technique is cleverly used to act upon the performers fame and prosperity therefore grossing from this benefit.

Eminem - Recovery. Poster Analysis

As the picture shows, there are two posters to promote the selling of this album. The poster on the left shows Eminem seated, releaxing watching television while surrounded by over towering buildings. This relaxation can be related to the title of the album "Recovery" as people usually relax when they are in need of recovering. The dominate buildings could possibly be used to show Eminem as a small person in a big city. The title "recovery" itself is large and prominant, so you cant miss it. The O is replaced by an aid symbol which is signifcant to recovery as in some cases you would require first aid or even a hospital or specific centre. From certain research I was made aware that Eminem spent some time in rehab for a duration of time. Therfore, this shows how his own self can relate directly to his album as he articulates his thoughts and feelings.

The poster on the right hand sign shows Eminem himself walking down a long road. This suggests that he has endured a long journey on the road to recover and hasnt gave up. The colours in both posters are dull and dismal which connotes depression and a struggle. For example, if bright colours were used you wouldnt associate this with a struggle that required a recovery.

Craig Davis Analysis

The following is a checklist created by Craig Davis, which regards the making of a ‘good’ music video. We will use the checklist and apply it to our own video.

1. Illustration:

Many music videos, specifically the ones of our contemporary society follow both a narrative and performance. By following a narrative the video itself illustrates the meaning of the song and visualises the music in a way that the audience can comprehend with. The performance aspect is simply the star image giving a performance and delivering their song to the audience.

Our video follows both a narrative and performance base. We have shots of Jacob, the star image, performing the song although the foundation of our video is relating what can be seen to the song itself.

As mentioned previously we used both a narrative and performance. This is understood as “hybrid form” since it repeatedly switches from performance to narrative throughout. We approached both with creative interpretation, unusual ideas and surrealistic approaches. When performing, Jacob had to master the art of lip syncing in time of the song itself, in order to give a realistic and professional performance. Throughout the performance he is addressing the audience through a number of different shots and camera angles; and so lip syncing was a major part and had to be prominent and perfected.

The performance aspect gives a direct link to the song although the other footage we used is also precisely linked to the lyrics. This can be seen throughout, one example being the footage of the Jonas brothers when they are mentioned. Another feature is that we filmed in a kitchen when the lyrics were regarding a kitchen. The biggest link in my opinion is the constant referral to “stop” in which we present a stop sign to the audience. We have taken our time out to link so thoroughly that even the beat itself is associated and in time with the lyrics, which is shown when the drummer is drumming and the selection of buildings are shown.

2. Audio-Visual Technical Codes:

Camera Shots: Craig Davis suggests that a close up of the singers face is “the main convention for a music video.”We can confirm we did this in our video as well as a range of other shots, primarily using medium shots and long shots most.

Camera Movement: In order to capture our performer walking in the shots around the city, we used a crane and tracking shot to insure steady and professional footage. The crane also allowed us to explore different heights in order to obtain either high or low shots.

Editing: Our narrative included many different locations and in the video the locations are constantly changing, at a quite rapid speed. It also changes to person, to buildings, to random footage expressing something in particular. This type of editing is called “montage editing” or formally known as “MTV style” editing.

Post-production digital effects: The effects we used in our video consisted of fading Jacob into the background and making him disappear, in which his performance continued in a change of location.

Lighting: When filming in the studio we used expressive lighting to capture the expression on Jacobs face and objectify him as the most important feature. We used colour contrast and desaturators to dim certain scenes, switching from black and white to colour which indicated a shift to the chorus and in our case reflecting our performer’s old life and new life.

Mis-en-scene: Our aim was to indicate success and fortune; and so we presented two contrasting costumes. One being a casual everyday wear which connotes working class and a potential struggle, the opposing costume was a suit which suggests wealth, money and status. Throughout the video we try to convey our intertextual approach to things, thus the use of particular elctronic gadgets, specifically the IPHONE, which ignites the video, and also the feature of Jacob wearing BEATS BY DRE whilst he peers through the rolex window.

Storyboard

During planning, we constructed a storyboard with an intention of it it giving us a guideline of shots we had to attain in order to construct our video. Many of these shots entailed us to film our footage at precise times due to certain locations being overbooked such as the chapel, or local authorities intervening during filming.
The opening scene of the video will exhibit Jacob making his to a bus top which ties in well with his daily life. Digetic sounds deployed in this scene will be passing cars and the naturalistic blows of the wind.
An electronic gadget will be used in this scene to convey our intertextual approach we will take throughout or video. The close up on the phone will ignite the start of performance.
We want our video to feature a symbolic location and we contemplated on the fact that they don't come anymore symbolic than Churches, specifically in front of the alter. A medium shot will be deposited during this scene showing the protagonist positioned in front of the alter, as he prepares for his performance.
Glimpses of Money and related symbols will be used in the video to convey the wealth aspects of Jacob, as he moves 'On To The Next One'.

Final Album Cover

Our album cover specifically exhibits aspects of the protagonists deprived background as shown through the dimmed contrast on the image itself. When people's heads are hung down, they are normally perceived to be depressed or encountering problems. This aspect of performance is deposited by Jacob in the album cover to generate an ore of pity and an essence of humility as he steps into the unknown. In addition, Jacob being the focal attraction on the cover conveys that whilst in the company of external influences, you can be derailed from reaching any pinnacles you plan to reach. But the courage to walk alone highlights willpower and desire in moving 'On To The Next One'.
The four panels shows the designing aspect of the album as a whole..............

Planning Our Album Cover

Prior to concluding our final album cover we began to experiment, using Photoshop, different image layers in hope of attaining a professional outcome for our initial album cover. We constantly deliberated over small details due to the fact we were always "In Search Of Perfection". For example the use of the 2 arrows in our initial cover coneys a sense of direction, which compliments the title of our adapted video, "ON TO THE NEXT ONE", particularly well.

During planning of the back cover, we decided to combine two images in hope of obtaining a unique finish. We combined a screen shot of THE BLUEPRINT 3's original track list with a screen grab of Jacob's iPhone to create a rare and also deposits the intertextual approach we took when forming this image. In addition, the specific use of the IPhone reveals how many modern day music video's advertise various products ranging from beauty products, to electronic gadgets such as BEATS BY DRE.

The image above reveals the outcome of the oficial album tracklist combined with the electronic gadget which has been deployed fro advertising purposes.

Initial Planning (Studio)

As mentioned we used the studio to film Jacobs performance to gain a professional look to our production. However, as a group we came to a disagreement and clash of opinions, which we knew could happen. One member of the group wanted to use the green screen to show the bottles which related to the lyrics; with Jacob performing infront, but another member wanted to take a more realistic, "hands on" approach and use actual bottles. As a group we discussed this issue thouroughly and planned out what would work best. The way in which we went about planning was expressing our ideas as they came to us using the white board provided.

Using this technique proved to be extremely beneifical as it allowed us to express ideas as they came to our head and we could weigh up the pros and cons of each suggested shot, comparing the features, why they would work and which would work better. It was also good because all of the group had a certain input and every one could see what others were thinking. The shot of Jacob holding the bottles didn't look as professional as the green screen use of bottles as it required Jacob to hold the bottles while perfoming. The bottles were empty and had been there for quite a while so they actually looked quite old and not prestine. Also, we took into consideration the audience of our production and decided it could possible advertise and somewhat glamourise drinking, which is definitely not our intention. We therefore opted to use green screen as we agreed it would look more proffessional and look more like a music video of the contemporary society.

Analysis of Lyrics

(Swizz Beats -Chorus)
I got a million ways to get it
Choose one (choose one)
Hey, bring it back (bring it back)
Now double your money and make a stack (The protagonist will be stood in front of a alter during these lyrics and we will see through his eyes)

I’m on to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one
On to the next one ( During these scenes multiple cuts will be used to replicate the fast beat of the actual soundtrack )

Hold up, freeze (During this specific lyric we deployed a traffic light to convey time stopping and Jacob progessing)

Somebody bring me back some money please,

(Jay-Z)
Hov on that new shit n-ggas like how come
N-ggas want my old sh-t, buy my old album
N-ggas stuck on stupid, I gotta keep it moving
N-ggas make the same sh-t, me I make the blueprint ( During this scene, Jacob will be dressed in samrt attire which will contrast the white screen he will be positioned in front off. Also the aittire he is dressed in conveys his wealth as he is now 'On To The Next One' )

Came in Range, hopped out the Lexus (A lexus car is driven because it represents wealth yet conjuncts back to the lyric)

every year since i’ve bin on that next sh-t
traded in the gold for the platinum rolex’s (Jacob stands ouside the rolex shop which enhances his status. It also juxtaposes the previous scenes which screen jacob performing in an alley way, conveying poorness)

Now a n-gga wrist match the status of my records (A platinum plaque is deployed on the green screen during this lyric. this solves the subliminal riddle hidden in this specific lyric)

Used to rock a throwback, ballin on the corner
Now I rock a teller suit looking like a owner
No im not a Jonus brother I’m a grown up
No I’m not a virgin I use my cahonas

I move forward the only direction
cant be scared to fail Search and perfection
Gotta keep it fresh even when we sexing
but don’t be mad at him when he’s on to the next one

Freeze

(Chorus) ( A collaborative performance starring Jacob and Lucy will take place during this scene. This will entail us securing numerous takes of this performance with an aim of attaining precise footage)

[Verse 2]
F-ck a throwback jersey cos we on to the next one,
and f-ck that autotune cos we oohhhhn,
and n-ggas don’t be mad cos it’s all about progression,
loiterers should be arrested, I used to drink Kristal,
muthaf-ckers racist, so I switched Gold Bottles on to that spade sh-t, ( A green screen will be deployed during this scene showing seqeuntial cuts of gold bottles )
you gon have another drink or you just gon babysit,
on to the next one, somebody call da waitress,
Baby i’m a boss, i dunno what they do, (Rick Ross is renowned as BOSS in modern day hip hop thus the image being deployed during this specific lyric)

I don’t get dropped, I dropped the label,
World can’t hold me, too much ambition, (Jacob would be stood on top of the Arndale rooftops with the rest of Manchester behind him, conveying his dominance of the city and enhances his credentials as the lead performer)
always knew it’d be like this when I was in the kitchen,
n-ggas in the same spots, me I’m dodging rain drops,
meaning i’m on vacay, chillin on a big yacht,
yeah i go ton flip flops, white louie boat shoes, (Footage of an associate performing the 'Crip Walk' will be positioned during this lyric as it compliments the narrative. "Los Angeles, California by Crip gang members" and is now used in modern day hip hop to express feeling just like other contemporary dances)

you should grow the f-ck up,
come here let me coach you,
Hold up,

[Chorus] (A montage of shots consisting of Jacob in an alley way and a break dancer will inter-cut producing a unique ending to the music video.)

Inspirational Ideas

We believe our music video is much more than just a music video. It represents a sole part of everyday life and the thoughts of many individuals. Together we agreed that we wanted to make an in depth meaningful production that held a lot of meaning; a piece of work many could relate to. People can relate to our video as it is has many meanings, however the main meaning is achieving much more than you think you are capable of. It allows the viewer to come to the realisation that they can accomplish anything they want and fulfil their every day dreams and thoughts.

The foundation of our inspiration came from our own selves and our inner thoughts. We hoped to make a video that the audience could relate to, as mentioned previously. Thus, this was the base of our narrative in that our music video tells a story.

The beginning of our video has a certain contexuality that can be compared to the video, “P.I.M.P” by the rapper 50cent. The rapper uses an iPod to start his song, which was popular at the contemporary era, the time in which the song was released. We gained some inspiration from this and decided to use a similar technique, but with technology
from our contemporary society. We used a medium focused shot to show Jacob pressing the ‘play’ button which begins the song. When compared, this does in fact show the way in which society progresses and waits for nobody; and so you should always aim to achieve your own dreams and never give up, as said in the song “it’s all about progression.”
Inspiration came from the artist/rapper Jay Z. Himself as a rapper gave us a certain influence to use one of the songs he had written. Unlike some other rappers Jay Z tends to talk about meaningful things, coming from humble and tough upbringings in comparison to a lavish life. Some rappers are extremely materialistic and do it for the money whereas Jay Z dedicates it to his fans and relates it to himself.
The film ‘Pretty Woman’, starring Julia Roberts, is about a prostitute, enduring a struggle who does in fact end up falling in love and ends up with a better life. The location shots in this shots in ‘Pretty Woman’ shown expensive shops such as: ‘Louis Vuitton’ and ‘Prada’ which is similar to our medium-close shots which show ‘Rolex’ and the footage of the ‘Lexus' car.

Goodwin's Theory

Whilst anaylsing our video using Goodwin’s Theory which is applied to the genre of grime/R&B it is based on 8 main principles. Primarily , the link between Lyrics and Visuals. In almost all music videos it is important that the song relates back to the video. The lyrics in the song relate directly back to the video as the song refers to a religious lexical field. Due to this we filmed in a Chapel portraying the a large statue of Mary and Jacob stood infront of the Alter. There is a strong relation between Jay Z and the bibilical side so this is why its significant to add in our production.

Other links consist of when the lyric 'LEXIS' is being said the car 'Lexis' is being driven this refers to the video as climbing social status's, having this car would be seen as Wealthy and this is how Jay Z wants to conveyed to his audience.

In our adaptational video, there is a relationship between music and visuals. The sound of the song and the effect is has on the listener is definitely reflected in our music video. For instance our fast paced song has a fast cutting rate and sharp shots in various locations. This is constant throughout however on parts that are slowed down we signify these.

Notions of looking plays on the idea of gaze and the way a character in particular is conveyed. However it is not just restricted to women it may also represent men in stereotyped way such as controlling or violent. In our video the representations are of men (Jacob). He is portrayed with attitude yet it deligates his rogue personality. In the video Lucy and Jacob perform together when the lyric 'Looking like I owner' is being said. At this specific time Lucy places a blazer on Jacobs shoulders. A close up of Jacob is shown expressing his emotion however his old life style still prowls through even though he is now sucessful and wealthy.
Furthermore, there are various lyrics which imply voyeurism. For instance 'No im not a jonas brother im a grown up, no im not a virgin i use my cohonas' This is futher emphasised on screen by Rebecca being in the bed and Jacob is sat on edge revealing that something intimate happened. Also a sign 'Grown ups only' is on the door

.
Demands of the Record Label- Jacob in the performance is shown as a wealthy appealing male due to his rich life style, which includes Cars, women and money. Being represented as all of the above would reach out the to target audience of women as they find it highly attractive, yet men aswell as they aspire to be like him in the future. This is crucial as particular genders are more inclinded to listen to cetain genres of music so making it appeal to both ultimately draws their attention.

The narrative allows the music in our video to come to life, like a real story. The story in our performance is apparent as beginning in unattractive locations yet gradually becoming wealthier represents the superior aspects. Yet performance is included as Jacob is lip syncing in the video.

Album Cover Images

Album covers expose visual information about the artist's music, ranging from the actual title of the album itself to the record label supporting the artists all the way down to any urgent information about the album for example parental advisory's.

We constructed a survey delegated to 20 people in hope of obtaining their opinions on what they thought the image on our album cover should be. Their opinions are more than valid because in the music industry, specifically Hip Hop/Rap, fans of the artists and even critics help form and escalate the performers image and without their inputs they wouldn't be musician they are today. The information extracted from the public revealed that most of preffered a combination of various images which initially was not our intention but these valid opinions have converted our mind set thus altering our image arrangements for our album images. We recorded our obtained data received from the public on Microsoft excel to help convey which images the general public wanted to witness on the final album cover.
The pie chart, extracted from Microsoft Excel, reveals that more people preferred the second album cover with the third album cover coming a close second. this unveiled to us of maybe combining the two images delegating the most popular cover as the main image on the front whilst the other image will be used as the back cover.

Initial Planning (Research into Hip Hop/Rap genre)

The music video we have chosen to adopt presents us with the opportunity to unveil our many skills. Whether they be in the performing aspects of the video, cinematography or even the editing of the whole production. Specific role's have been delegated amonsgt the group . Jacob will take on the role of the protagonist accompanied by Rebecca and Lucy who would only feature in specific scenes which specifically conjunct the lyrics. We will collectively direct the video in hope of attaining a wider range of ideas which could help produce a high standard of filming. Furthermore, we will we would each contribute to the editing of the piece because we each harbour the skills obtained from AS media.
The initial planning of our music video was of a broad spectrum. As a group we were wise enough not to limit our choices to only one genre. So we did in fact analyse a selection of different genres, including the folk/acoustic “The a Team” by Ed Sheeran. The dance/pop “Telephone” by Lady Gaga and the hip-hop/rap “Hustle hard” by Ace Hood. In my opinion, analysing a selection of different genres and not limiting it to one, allowed us to gain a better insight to the music industry and the way in which music videos work; thus giving us a better advantage when making our own music video.
Between the three of us we had decided that we wanted a somewhat storyline narrative portrayed through our video. We wanted our video to represent everyday life and the normality of working life but at the same time, we
wanted to get across the message that anything is in fact possible.

To fulfill this, we believed the rap/hip-hop genre would work best as we thought this was the most energetic and would appeal to the motivationally driven adolescents who hope to achieve more in life. We also wanted to break the stereotype of rap music, as many people do in fact assume rap has no meaning. The reason as to why we chose the song we did, relates directly to the message we wish to convey, that it is possible to move “on to the next” aspect of life and follow what you dream of.We believe what you are moving onto is individual and should be what makes that person happy. During research into the hip-hop/rap genre I was made aware of a quote by Tupac Shakur, himself being a famous rapper. He stated “during your life, never stop dreaming. No one can take away your dreams.”

The hip-hop/rap genre usually consists of rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. The words usually rhyme, like poetry over a beat. The stereotype of rap assumes that rap/hip-hop is usually only about several things, such as girls and money to name two. However, rap can be consisted like poetry as previously mentioned. For example, many rappers such as Jay-Z and 2Pac write lyrics that people can relate to, about things such as love or everyday life.
